MY JOURNEY
AS A PHOTOGRAPHER
12 YEARS IN AN INDUSTRY BRINGS A WHOLE LOT OF STORIES & EXPERIENCE. FROM MY TRAVEL BLOGGING DAYS AND FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY (HELLO DOMINOES) TO WOMEN’S NUDE PHOTOSHOOTS AND TRANSFORMATIVE RETREATS - IT’S SAFE TO SAY, I’VE GONE AND DONE IT.
WHERE THE STORY FIRST BEGAN —
Photography has been a part of my world since my high school days in 2010. I was gifted a DSLR camera for my birthday from my parents and it never left my side. From my weekends spent taking cute photos of my two dogs and school afternoons photographing my friends at the lookout to the $50 gigs for formals and family portraits — it was my favourite thing to do in the whole world.
Naturally, I wanted to continue my studies after high school, so after my gap year, I moved down to Brisbane to study Photography majoring in Photojournalism and Documentary.
Whilst at University, I spent a lot of my time and quite frankly, all of my money on travelling and exploring the world in my downtime. Being a travel photographer and writer was a dream of mine and I began to put the hard work in to turn that into my reality. Spoiler alert: I did.
I worked as a travel blogger up until 2018, when I hit burn out and poor little Sophie felt like such a failure. I deleted my entire blog (💔) and pretended like that part of myself didn’t exist.
With my 13 years of hospitality experience, I then began to start working as a photographer in the industry. It was so fabulous and I really enjoyed it — I did freelance work for Urban List Brisbane, Style Magazines and even some work for Dominoes!
ENTER MY ‘SELF LOVE’ AND ‘LIBERATION’ ERA.
The world changed in 2020 and it forced me to look inwards. I landed myself in a community where I completely submerged into this new world of spirituality, feminine expression and liberation. My best friend at the time asked me to do a topless photoshoot for her & although incredibly triggered and nervous, it was the start of this unreal, healing and transformative journey.
More of more women wanted to be a part of what I was creating and the response was just so beautiful. It was something that had such deep rooted purpose, not just for myself, but for the women that got to be in front of my lens.
Fast forward to now, 4 years into this line of work and I have photographed hundreds of women in vulnerable, intimate self love experiences — whether that’s in a 1:1 space, sisterhood photoshoot or at my retreats. I’ve also supported around 50 women in their business to have the images that they so deeply desire and start showing up with the confidence and passion they were missing for so long.
The thing is, this work, right here, is my bread and butter. And I’m not afraid to hide that no more. The space I hold is uniquely mine and I am so unbelievably proud of the experiences that women now get to be a part of. I hope that you get to experience this magic too.
OUTSIDE OF BIZ YOU CAN FIND ME PARAGLIDING, SURFING, GOING ON LONG HIKING TRIPS AND BASICALLY DOING ANYTHING THAT INVOLVES A LIL BIT OF ADVENTURE AND A WHOLE LOT OF FUN. NOT TO MENTION, I LOVE SPENDING TIME WITH MY POOCHIE & GOING FOR A SPICY SUNSET MARGI ON THE WEEKEND.
PLUS I RUN AN OUTDOORSY COMMUNITY WITH MY BESTIE CALLED BRAVE BABES AUSTRALIA!
I value connection and trust, so much so, that without this, I don’t pick up the camera to start the photoshoot. You can be assured that you’ll only be photographed when you’re feeling ready & there will always be space to be held in any discomfort that arises.
EMBODIED PHOTOGRAPHY IS MY FORTÉ
I have been documenting women in vulnerable, intimate spaces for the last 4 years and outside of that, have been in the photography world for more than a decade. To me, photography is more than just capturing beautiful moments. It’s about creating a memoir of your life & finding great healing and transformation in those images.
When it comes to holding space, I truly practice what I preach. Self portraiture has been a part of my journey for the last nine years and I am so grateful I decided to turn the camera to myself and witness my body shift as I grew older. Not only has this supported me in my own journey, but it has been a huge reason why I can show up for women like I do in all of my Self Love experiences.
